C’est La Vie
Description
C’est le vie is a stainless steel sculpture of a fairy leaping into the wind. The pose shows her leaping though flying leaves and various autumn like materials. All the copper details are polished and lacquered to retail their colour and shine outside.
Back Story
I’ve actually made a couple of fairies with a similar pose. It started years ago with a fairy called Wind Dancer. It such a wonderful shape with the full curve from her foot, right through her body, up to the her raise arm and hand. But this is the first time I’ve made this pose with wings. I wanted to show the wind bending her wings to add to the effect.
I agonise over the names of my fairies. I can never find a suitable name or title to pack in all meanings and emotions that I’m trying to convey in a design.
It offends me in art galleries when you see long narrative explanations which are tying to brainwash the viewer into reading the artists tenuous overly intellectual meanings into a piece. The artwork itself should instantly provoke meaning in your heart. If it does not have this reaction, then perhaps its not the right piece for you.
Having said all that, this fairy is very special to ME. I was finishing her off when I came very close to not being here, due to a medical problem which escalated very quickly. Life can change in an instant, just like the wind: Hence the name C’est la vie which means “Thats life”
Live life with a freedom as if nobody’s watching, you can not know, how or when the wind will change!
