Ladybug

Description

Ladybug is a stainless steel fairy sitting in a hoop and releasing a Ladybird from her hand. She is wearing a flower hat and leaf skirt which are made from copper and brass. The ladybird itself is also made from stainless steel copper and brass. All the copper and brass parts have been lacquered to retain their colour and shine outside.

Back Story

Ladybird’s or Ladybugs are associated with good luck and new beginnings and everybody loves a ladybird. I simply wanted to to create a joyous little fairy with an element of visual illusion and a lot of fun. It appears that the fairy is sitting in the ring. Visually this seems quite simple, but part of the appeal of making her was the challenge of making her look like her weight is taken on the ring. It actually requires the centre of gravity to perfect and her muscles have to be deformed to appear under load.
